The Edge2 DSS system from Dapra Corp. is designed to deliver both 90-degree and indexable milling.
The Edge2 DSS system from Dapra Corp. is designed to deliver both 90-degree and indexable milling. Double-sided inserts provide four usable cutting edges which is said to lower cost-per-edge versus single-sided inserts, and the company’s permanent automatic cutter replacement program enables shops to keep good-condition tools in use.
The inserts feature a positive geometry for low-cutting pressure while still maintaining strength. Designed convexity creates smooth surface finishes when step-down profile milling, and a custom-designed wiper edge generates smooth surface finishes. They are available in both T-land and dished geometries, in a variety of high-performance grades and coatings.
The end mills, shell mills and screw-on modular heads are machined from hardened, high-shock tool steel to minimize runout and maximize durability and life, according to the company. Nickel-plating provides a harder casing which is said to improve pocket durability and resistance to chip galling, and deep gullets enable efficient chip evacuation. Long-reach tools are available with carbide core for enhanced rigidity and reduced deflection.
