“It's a lack of readiness that is holding manufacturing back,” says Marion Wells, Founder of Human Asset Management and MMT EAB member. Here she joins Jeannine Kunz, Chief Workforce Development Officer of Society of Manufacturing Engineers and Christina Fuges of MoldMaking Technology to discuss how to develop a talent strategy.
The North American manufacturing industry is poised to have a decrease in the number of qualified applicants for future jobs because of a lack of readiness. The problem is driven by the concurrent impact of an aging workforce, the rapid pace of new technology adoption, the results of a post-COVID learning environment where students aren't meeting national standards and a new employee social contract (what an employee wants/needs is a moving target). We are at a turning point where organizations must now plan to address their talent needs.
Marion and Jeannine share the state of the manufacturing workforce and actionable steps to develop a talent/workforce strategy.
